As I have talked about before, I am a huge Clemson football fan. For me, what makes following the team so special is the coaches. If you know anything about Clemson, you probably have heard of their head coach, Dabo Swinney.

Dabo’s leadership attracts top talent to his staff and the Clemson Tiger family. This was never more evident than last year when a number of college football teams were looking for a new head coach. Of course, due to the success of the Clemson program, universities were reaching out to the Clemson coaching staff. Tony Elliot, Clemson’s offensive coordinator, was at the top of many lists.

When a reporter asked Tony his thoughts, here is what he had to say: “I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. Money doesn’t matter to me. Status doesn’t matter to me. I believe I am living a purpose-filled life. My purpose is to be here at Clemson right now and when the Lord opens the door then I will transition.”

Wow. What clarity and understanding of what is important to him.

I believe that as individuals, we need to understand what makes us tick and what makes us happy. Once we find that clarity, the rest of life just gets easier and simpler.

Do you know your why? Do you know what will make you happy? If you are having trouble answering these questions, the rest of your life will be filled with challenges and stress. Like Tony, you need to know what you want and find your purpose. Then, you can become the person you were meant to be.

Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
