If there is one thing that COVID-19 has taught us, it is that we need to get better at making decisions. The problem we have today is that we keep trying to let past performance and past knowledge direct our thinking. This will not work.
Yesterday is gone and today is a new day with a new set of challenges. We cannot make decisions based on our gut, we have to make decisions based on data.
Think about Google Maps. When you get into your car and you place your destination into your app, does it just take you the way you’ve always gone? No! It looks at the data based on traffic patterns and speed, slowdowns or construction, then it provides you the most optimized route possible. Will it be the same every time? Maybe, but conditions will cause it to change.
But what about our lives and our businesses? We don’t always listen to the data when it is talking to us. We often place our instincts over the facts. And this gets us in trouble.
Now more than ever we need to be listening to our data. We are in times where we are not making decisions based on facts but fear. Now is the time to step back and let the information we have guide us and lead us to make better decisions.
Google learned this secret a long time ago. If you want to start making better decisions, let your data have a voice and start listening.
Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
