Isn't It Time to Replace Your Squeaky Wheel?

Remember the old saying, the squeaky wheel gets the grease? People say this when there is a problem and the person who speaks up the loudest gets the attention, and a resolution.

But what about leadership? Is that a good philosophy to lead your team by?

The problem with the squeaky wheel is it not only takes all your attention, but it can drain you of your energy as well.

If someone in your organization is a squeaky wheel, rather than putting up with them (or greasing them), you’re probably better off finding someone who fits your team’s culture, vision, and mindset better.

We live in an age of abundance where we can access all kinds of talent for our teams if we are willing to look. As leaders we should not settle, we should demand the best for our team.

As Seth Godin says, the question you should ask yourself is, “Would you rather spend your time with your best performers helping them grow and get even better, or spend time with your squeakiest wheels dealing with their issues?”

We have limited time as leaders. So, do we want to spend time greasing the squeaky wheel or use it to build an incredible team? Once you answer that question, you will be on your way to building a winning team.
