As I continue on the journey of writing my book, I find it fascinating the reaction people have when I tell them what I am doing. The first question is always, “How do you do it, where do the words come from?”
This is a great question, that I have often asked myself.
But once I started writing, I learned that the process is simple: just show up.
If you just show up, you will be successful in anything you do. Show up each day and you will accomplish things you never thought possible. You want to write a book? Just show up every day and write 250 words. Yep, 250 words a day and guess what? In 6 months, you have the words you need to fill a book.
At our company, we have a saying that “you have to do the time.” If you want to run a marathon, you have to run the miles. If you want to be a body builder, you have to lift the weights. If you want to write a book, you have to write the words.
We all have the power to do great things if we just show up.
In my writing group, we have a person who has written two books. This person has gone through all the struggles we are experiencing as we get our words down on paper. Our group has a weekly call and during a recent call, our friend called us all out on not showing up as we made excuse after excuse about why our books were not moving forward.
But you know what? It was exactly what we needed to hear. She told us to stop worrying about the grammar, the spelling and all the other excuses. Just show up and write. The other things will fall into place.
As you move forward in 2020, remember that whatever you are trying to accomplish, showing up matters. Show up and great things will come your way.
Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
