Recently I went to a concert in Nashville, TN with my wife and daughter. We were seeing Kenny Chesney. What an amazing performer! The “No Shoes Nation,” as the fans call themselves, is quite the spectacle. The energy, the excitement, and music were great to be a part of.
But, that was not what really captivated me. The opening band for Kenny was an up and coming artist named Thomas Rhett. You might have heard of him, but I had not. What caught me was his song Life Changes. What a great title to a song!
If you haven’t heard it, give it a listen. It has a very catchy rhythm.
The chorus goes like this:
Ain't it funny how life changes.
You wake up, ain't nothing the same and life changes.
You can't stop it, just hop on the train and you never know what's gonna happen.
You make your plans and you hear God laughing.
Life changes, and I wouldn't change it for the world.
These lyrics ring so true! We think we are in control of our lives but guess what - life changes. When you think about these changes they are often not big dramatic events, but small events that start something bigger.
Just look back at the last 10 years of your life. Could you have predicate what was going to happen?
So many times, we miss life because we are spending too much time trying to control it. Instead, we should take Rhett’s advice and, “just hop on the train and your life will never be the same.”
As I enter my 10th year with Advoco, this song is very pertinent. When I started out, I could never have imagined how my life would be today. All the great people and customers I have met, the great teammates I work with, the places I’ve been, and the amazing family I’ve been a part of all these years. I could not have predicted this, but it is what I hoped for.
Life does change, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
