Stillness Is The Key

One of the things I love most about Christmas, outside of my Christian belief in the wonderment of the birth of Christ, is the stillness of the day.

Have you ever noticed how quiet it is on Christmas morning? There are no stores open, no traffic whizzing up and down the streets, no loud noise. Just stillness.

What I love about stillness is the chance it gives me to stop and think. To reflect on the life around me and the possibilities of what is in front of me. The beauty of stillness is it is your time. Your time to be with yourself and think about the people, family, and friends around you. To reflect on the loved ones lost and the new friends you have found.

Stillness lets us reset and take stock in who we are and if we are living the life we were meant to live. The best part of life is that it is up to you to decide who you want to be and how you want to live.

Living in a pandemic has really challenged the way we think, act, and interact, but it does not have to set us back. It does not have to define who we are or how we are supposed to act. That is left up to us and only us.

As you think about stillness here are some other related words: tranquility, soundlessness, quietness, silence, motionlessness, placidity, calmness, peace, and serenity. Don’t they sound nice?

As we begin to move out of the holiday season remember, stillness is the key and when you practice stillness is might be the greatest gift you give yourself.

Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
