Trust Is Not Like A Bank Account

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that trust is the cornerstone of everything we do.

With trust, we can deal with conflict, adversity, and accountability. If your team trusts you, they will follow you anywhere. If your customer trusts you, they will continue to work with you. If your spouse trusts you, you will have a long and happy marriage.

But what happens when that trust is broken?

Everything stops.

Unlike a bank account, you cannot build up trust to use later when you want to. Instead, trust is like a water balloon. Once it pops, everything comes out and you have to start all over.

It’s a hard concept to accept because we are a forgiving nation, but trust is something special that has to be nurtured. When the trust is broken, it is almost impossible to get it back.

Next time you want to do something selfish, remember trust is not a bank account and you can’t just make withdrawals.

Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
