Have you ever heard this word? Wabi-sabi has its roots in Chinese Zen Buddhism. The story of wabi-sabi can be traced back to a 16th-century Japanese legend about Sen no Rikyu and his tea master, Takeno Joo.
Wabi-sabi is the view or thought of finding beauty in every aspect of imperfection in nature. It is about the aesthetic of things in existence, that are “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.” Basically, it encourages us to focus on the blessings hidden in our daily lives and celebrate the way things are rather than how we believe they should be.
I think this term is so important right now. As we enter into the Thanksgiving season, we need to focus on what we are thankful for and not on what we believe should be happening. So many things have and are changing around us, and if we let the events of the day control our lives we will miss out on the blessings that are all around us.
During the next week, practice wabi-sabi and let the spirit of the word fill your heart and mind with joy and see how much better you feel. We have so much to be thankful for and no Covid, no election, or change can take that away from you.
Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
