As we come to the end of the year, Christmas is just around the corner and the Advent season is almost over. But is it?
Do you know what the word Advent means?
For Christians, the Advent season is the four weeks leading up to Christmas while we wait for the birth of Christ. But Advent is not just a biblical term. Advent means the arrival or coming of something. Generally, the noun advent is used for the introduction of something important.
The question to think about as we head into the New Year is: what are you waiting for? What is it you want to happen?
For some of us it might be a breakthrough with an idea or project. For others it might be some life changing event like getting married or having a child. Or we are waiting for some good news with respect to a current situation.
I think this is the beauty of the season. We get to think about our advent and what special thing is on the horizon. However, the challenge with Advent is the waiting. The waiting for what we want to happen. For most, the waiting can be challenging and scary. But isn’t the waiting the gift of Advent? The anticipation, the excitement that something new is about to happen.
Life can be hard, and it can be scary. We have so much thrown at us that it can rob us of our joy and wonderment. But as we wind down the year, let’s not focus on what should have been or what could have been, but what we now have to look forward to.
Don’t let the Advent season end at Christmas. Let the joy of Advent be in your heart all year. What are you waiting for? Something special is coming your way if you just open your eyes and let the possibilities come in.
Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
